About Us

The 60-voice River City Chorale, a nonprofit corporation, has been bringing
fine choral music to the greater Sacramento region for over 3 decades --since
1977. Committed to excellence, the auditioned members work hard and have
fun together preparing and performing three distinctively different sets of concerts each
season, with a repertoire ranging from classical and traditional to contemporary,
Broadway and jazz.

The members of the Chorale are grateful to concert patrons, donors, advertisers,
and sponsors for their continuing financial support.

The River City Chorale is the only mixed chorus of its size – approximately 60 men and
women--to prepare and perform a wide variety of fine music each season, while enjoying
social interaction and fun together at rehearsals, retreats, concerts, parties, and on
international tours every three years! The Chorale sings all styles of music, from
baroque to contemporary, from classical cantatas to popular Broadway medleys.

Membership is open to anyone, subject to audition and the needs of each vocal section.
Annual dues are $175. Rehearsals are held in the Arden-Arcade area on Monday evenings,
early September to mid-May. The Chorale performs three Christmas concerts the first
weekend in December; two pops concerts the first weekend in March; and two
spring concerts in early May.

Paying their own way, Chorale members have been performing internationally every third
year since 1983, touring Canada, the British Isles, Brazil, and 14 countries in Western
Europe. The 2014 tour will include three countries along the Rhine River.

The Chorale is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that relies on membership dues, ticket
sales, business and individual donors and advertisers, and fundraiser support to maintain
a modest annual operating budget. The Chorale has no office and no paid administrative
staff. Chorale members volunteer to serve on the Board of Directors and various committees
to handle all administrative duties. The Board contracts annually for the services of the
artistic director, piano accompanist, and webmaster. Annual operating expenses include
payments for visiting musicians, rehearsal and concert venues, and the purchase and storage
of sheet music.
